Australian singer Vanessa Amorosi is a featured vocalist on the new Dave Stewart album ‘Lucky Numbers’.
‘Lucky Number’ is Stewart’s third album in three years.
“I play live in LA quite often at the Troubadour as Dave Stewart and Friends and people get up, like John Mayer got up, four weeks ago when I did it Marilyn Manson got up and Vanessa got up about a year ago and sang and she was amazing,” Dave tells Noise11.com. “I didn’t realize she could belt out her voice like that in a kind of rock/bluesy way”.
After that performance Dave and Vanessa formed a friendship and talked a lot about music. “I had a couple of tracks on my record with Gospel singers and Vanessa said she loved Gospel music and Gospel arranging,” he said. “She then sent me something she had written when she was about 17 and said she could write a gospel choir arrangement for this one song I had called ‘What Is Wrong With Me’. Then she did it and it was amazing”.
Vanessa can also be heard on ‘Drugs Taught Me A Lesson’ and ‘How To Ruin A Romance’ as well as ‘What Is Wrong With Me?’.
“She has actually just been playing live with me in Germany,” Dave said. “We just got back. I got to know her as this amazing soul kind of blues singer with this raw energy”.
As well as Vanessa, country star Martina McBride is back with Dave on the song ‘Every Single Night’. Martina’s husband John McBride produced the album. Martina sang ‘All Messed Up’ and his previous album ‘Blackbird Diaries’.
‘Lucky Numbers’ also features vocals from Laura Michelle Kelly, Anne Marie Calhoun, Karen Elson and Holly Quin Rah.
The new album also features the same line-up of musicians who played on Stewart’s previous two albums, guitarist Tom Bukovac, drummer Chad Cromwell, bassist Michael Rhodes, pianist Mike Rojas, pedal steel guitarist Dan Dugmore and multi-instrumentalist Kieran Kiely, on accordion, flute and the Irish bodhrán drum.
