Country singer David Allan Coe was injured when he ran a red light in his SUV and was hit by a tractor-trailer.
Coe was driving in Ocala, FL on Tuesday morning when he went through a red light at the corner of Silver Spring Boulevard and South Pine Avenue and was hit broadside by the truck driven by Robert Johnson, 59 and his passenger Lisa Meade, 49, both from California. The impact pushed the car into a parking lot and flipped the truck on its side, destroying a traffic control box and stopping against a cement pole. The radishes and corn that were in the truck were strewn across the highway.
According to sources, Coe was removed from the SUV by Ocala Fire Rescue and taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. His manager has stated that he will be OK. At this point, he has been issued a ticket for running a red light.
Meade was treated and has been released from the hospital while Johnson was transferred to another local hospital where he will be undergoing surgery on Wednesday.
A statement at his official website reads, ” David is recuperating from his accident and he will be OK!”
