The musicians that backed David Bowie on his final album, Blackstar, have reformed to record an album saluting the late singer.
Beyond Now, set for an October 14 release, will feature Donny McCaslin and his band, a group of jazz musicians that Bowie brought in to create the sound for the album, including bassist Tim Lefebvre, piano player Jason Lindner and drummer Mark Guiliana.
Included are a number of originals along with covers including two from Bowie, A Small Plot of Land from Low and Warszawa from Low. McCaslin also said that the title song was inspired by a song that they recorded for Blackstar but that didn’t make the final album.
McCaslin said in a statement “David Bowie was a visionary artist whose generosity, creative spirit, and fearlessness will stay with me the rest of my days. Beyond Now is dedicated to him and to all who loved him.”
