David Bowie ‘The Next Day’ was the biggest selling album of 2013 in UK record stores but failed to make the Top 20 overall.
The Official Charts Company, the company that compiles the UK music chart, showed very different buying habits for physical music shoppers compared to those who purchased downloads of digital music.
Bowie’s ‘The Next Day’ was the 26th biggest seller overall on the UK album chart in 2013 but the most purchased physical disc.
One Direction ‘Midnight Memories’ was the number one selling album in the UK in 2013 but failed to make the top 40 of physical sales.
Albums by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Queens of the Stone Age, National, Boards of Canada and Vampire Weekend all made the physical Top 10 but didn’t make the overall Top 40.
Only Arctic Monkeys ‘AM’ was common to both Top 10 lists, coming in at 2 on the physical chart and 8 on the overall chart.
