The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has as many famous absentees as it has members and David Cassidy is one of them.
Artists not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include the Moody Blues, Yes, Chicago, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi and many more. There have been numerous pushes for these artists along with everyone from the Monkees to Melanie, but a new petition campaign is advancing a name that has not been part of the campaigns before, David Cassidy.
A new page on GoPetition.com advances Cassidy’s name with a list of reasons why he should be considered, including being “the first pop star to be globally merchandised – a one man brand – which set the standards musically and culturally for many who followed in his footsteps” and being “the world’s highest paid performer by the age of 21, and had the biggest fan club on the planet.”
Cassidy himself, though, knows the chances of there being an induction in his future and spoke out about it on his official webpage:
Thank you, I appreciate your love and support for me.
They’ll NEVER let me into the R&R Hall of Fame. I’m too pop. So many TRULY GREAT pop artists will never be in. I’ve never cared about awards. It’s more gratifying to me that my fans love what I do.
On another note, my band and I have had an amazing time being daring and doing unusual materials that we’ve not ever done before. I think I’m going to continue to push the envelope a little more in my next few shows. We shall see.
