Disturbed decided to reform and make a new record in January, 2014 and no-one knew until a few weeks ago.
Considering the high profile lead singer David Draiman tells Noise11.com that it wasn’t an easy thing to do. “It took a lot of threats and non-disclosure agreements and white lies and pissed off relatives and close friends. It was quite the undertaking,” Draiman said.
David said that during the time they were together in Las Vegas making their new album ‘Immortalized’ they were occasionally seen together by fans. “There were a couple of times that people spotted us together but that’s the beauty of Las Vegas. It immediately provides you with plausible deniability because its not the strangest thing to imagine the guys from Disturbed, who are actually friends in real life, who do hang out with one another, spending some time in Las Vegas together. It definitely lent itself to the shadow of doubt”.
To create a further land of confusion for the fans they made sure they posted on their social media pages from all over the country. “To makes things even more confusing for people I had brought my whole family out to Vegas to make the record but Dan and Mike weren’t able to do so because their children are at school,” he said. “My son is just turning two in September so I don’t have that issue yet.
“Every time they’d go back home, sometimes every weekend, they’d make sure to post from their own personal social media accounts at home. Even if we were seen together in Las Vegas then fans would see posts from their homes in Chicago or Milwaukee. People who comment ‘I just saw Dan post he was in Chicago and David was in Vegas so there is no way they can be together making a record because they are not in the same place’. We did everything we could to lay the smoke screen as thickly as we possibly could”.
The downside of the secret is that they also couldn’t work on a tour schedule which rules out an appearance for Soundwave 2016. “The only unfortunate thing about having kept this thing a secret for as long as we did is that you can’t really start planning things until the secret is out. The secret only came out a month or two ago. As soon as we have something definite to announce we will,” David says.
Rest assured, Disturbed will tour Australia in 2016. “In all honesty Australia is one of the most vibrants markets for the band. You can’t get the kind of energy that you get from Australian crowds almost anywhere else on the planet”.
Disturb’s sixth album ‘Immortalized’ will be released by this Friday, August 21, 2015.
The full interview with David Draiman and songs from ‘Immortalized’, will be also heard from Friday in iHeartRadio Music News, powered by Noise11.com.
