David Furnish has slammed into Madonna after she beat his partner Elton John to a Golden Globe Award.
Furnish had nothing nice to say about Madonna’s win for Best Original Song at last night’s Golden Globes.
Both were nominated in the category, Elton John and Bernie Taupin for Hello, Hello from Gnomeo and Juliet and Madonna (with Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry) for Masterpiece from W.E. The problem (beyond a mutual annoyance) appears to be in the fact that Elton and Bernie wrote the song as an integral part of the movie while Madonna’s was written for her new album and chosen for over the closing credits later. The Material Girl even referenced this in her acceptance speech, talking how manager Guy Oseary bugged her to write a song for the movie.
He harangued me for the entire time I was filming and editing my movie to write a song. And I said, ‘Please, Guy, I’m trying to focus on being a director and I want people to be able to pay attention to the film. And I don’t have time.’ So then I finished the film and I started making my record and somehow magically and miraculously the song emerged, ‘Masterpiece,’ so thank you, Guy Oseary, for being so irritating.
The sparring between the two artists started during NBC’s pre-show where Carson Daly asked about the race and Elton saying that Madonna “doesn’t have a f***ing chance of winning tonight” and calling his statement “accurate words” versus “fighting words.”
Daly went on to ask Madonna about the statement where she said “Was he wearing a dress? May the best man win.”
When Madonna was named the winner, the camera flashed to Elton sitting in the audience with a scowl on his face, returning a number of times during her acceptance speech.
Later, according to TMZ, Furnish made a private posting on his Facebook page saying “Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!! Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism. And her critisism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”
