Nicki Minaj is borderline “crazy” because of her “incredible perfectionism”, insists David Guetta.
The pair worked together on hit ‘Turn Me On’, which is from David’s fifth studio album, Nothing But The Beat. When asked if the famously lively star was a “handful”, David rebuffed such claims.
“Oh no, she’s really focused on work,” he told BBC Radio 1. “Like incredibly. She’s a real perfectionist, like almost crazy. “She’d make me re-do things like ten million times.”
David has worked with a host of big names, including Rihanna and Usher. The French house music producer and DJ has revealed the laziest star that he’s come across in the music industry.
“I sent will.i.am an MP3 and he said he ‘loved it’, and I was like, ‘OK, let me know when we can mix it.’ And he was like ‘No, it’s alright, we don’t need anything else!’” he laughed.
David is currently enjoying massive success with his track ‘Titanium’, which features artist Sia. The 44-year-old star says the singer-songwriter impressed him straight away.
“It’s my favourite song on the album. [Did I write] the words? No. Sia wrote the words. I have to tell you the story – she didn’t want to be an artist anymore – she’s been around for a while, she’s been very respected, but she didn’t have huge success like Usher,” he explained.
“And she decided, ‘I want to be a songwriter.’ We went to the studio for the first time. The idea was that we were making a song for Alicia Keys. When I heard her voice on the demo, I was like, ‘I don’t want to give this to anyone!’”
“She was like, ‘The day I decide to not be an artist, I get the biggest record!’”
David has revealed his favourite tracks from his long list of hits. He prefers the songs that successfully mix strong dance beats with powerful lyrics.
“I think this one [‘Titanium’], and ‘Without You’. [Sia sings] with lots of emotion. I love emotion, but also crazy beats, so I like to mix both of them,” he said.
“There’s a few good songs on this album, it’s kind of incredible. I’m shocked myself. I love this country [UK]. Two records in the top ten.”
