The paparazzo who died while chasing after Justin Bieber’s white Ferrari yesterday has been identified as Chris Guerra, a photographer obsessed with the singer.
29-year old Guerra was so obsessed with covering Bieber that he worked exclusively on covering the singer’s movements. E News reports that Guerra was taking the pictures for GSI Media as a freelancer but was not on the staff.
Guerra moved to Los Angeles about a year ago and started working as a pap.
He had been waiting for Bieber outside the Four Seasons hotel in Beverly Hills and followed Bieber’s white Ferrari when it left the hotel, probably unaware that Bieber wasn’t in the car.
Bieber’s friend, rapper Lil Twist took the car out for a drive late yesterday afternoon and was traveling along Sepulveda Blvd near the 405 exit when police pulled the Ferrari over for a routine check.
Guerra attempted to cross four lanes of busy traffic to snap the action. Police ordered him to go back to his vehicle twice. When he eventually turned to return to his car he was struck by another car at around 5:50pm.
He was taken to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and pronounced dead at 6:20pm. Guerra was not married and had no children.
A 69-year old woman was driving the car that struck Guerra but she will not face charges.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim,” Justin Bieber said in a statement today. “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders and the photographers themselves.”
