Part-human-part-digital-robot-mouse-thingy Deadmau5 has scoffed at Forbes’ estimate of his earnings while speaking at an electronic music conference.
The well respected finance magazine is well known for “rich-lists” in various categories. In 2012 they published their first ever Electronic Cash Kings list which saw Deadmau5 appear at #6 with reported earnings of $11.5million.
Speaking on stage at Billboard’s FutureSound conference, Deadmau5 – whose real name is Joel Zimmerman – said: “After I saw the article, I called my manager and said, ‘Yo, what the fuck? I’m $9 million short, dude. We gotta talk. Nobody is making that kind of money.'”
On top of the list was Dutch DJ Tiësto with a reported earning of $22million.
It is worth noting that these “rich-lists” are estimates based on total wealth, not just actual dollars that have gone into the bank account. For example, a house that skyrockets in value over the year could be considered income.
