Denis Handlin AM, Chairman & CEO, Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia, will receive the ARIA Industry Icon award at this ARIA’s on Wednesday.
Handlin began his career in the music industry at the Australia Record Company in 1970. The Australian Record Company became CBS Records and is now Sony Music. He is officially the longest running Sony Music employee in the world.
Denis was appointed CEO of CBS Records in 1984.
In 1998 Handlin co-founded the Sony Foundation. The charity has raised over $16 million for youth causes.
In 2005, Denis was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for of his service to the music industry, particularly through the promotion of Australian musicians, to professional organisations in the industry and for the work he has done in the community for charitable organisations.
This week Handlin was also elected Chairman of the Asia/Pacific Regional Board of trade group. IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Asia Board).. He replaces retiring Warner Music Asia Pacific president Lachie Rutherford, who held the IFPI position for 10 years.
Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum will present Denis Handlin AM with the ARIA Industry Icon Award at the ARIA Chairman’s pre-show cocktail party on Wednesday.
