Australian actress Diane Cilento has died at the age of 78 in Cairns.
One of Diane’s most famous movies was the horror flick ‘The Wicker Man’ in 1973. In 1963, she received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in ‘Tom Jones’. She also starred with Charlton Heston in ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy’ and with Paul Newman in ‘Hombre’.
In 1962, Diane married Sean Connery. They divorced in 1973. They had one son, Jason Connery. She once had a cameo in her then husband’s James Bond movie ‘You Only Live Twice’. Diane is in a diving scene because co-star Mie Hama’s was not available.
Diane grew up in Mooloolaba, Queensland, the daughter of Sir Raphael Cilento and Lady Phyllis Cilento, both distinguished doctors.
Diane turned 78 on Wednesday.
She passed away after a long illness in Cairns, Queensland.
