French Ed Banger producer DJ Medhi has been killed in a freak accident at his home.
The renowned electro producer from the esteemed Ed Banger label (home to Justic, Cassius, Uffie and more) was celebrating the birthday of his Carte Blanche musical partner Riton (Henry Smithson).
The partygoers were on the roof of his home in Paris, which collapsed, killing Medhi and injuring three others. Riton himself escaped injury.
The news spread throughout twitter, with stars of the electro scene expressing their disbelief and sorrow. DJ Mag reports that Bloody Beetroots, Stanton Warriors, Chromeo and more have already expressed their condolences.
DJ Medhi was born Mehdi Favéris-Essadi in Tunisia, was credited with bringing hip-hop and electro production together in the late ‘90s. He went on to collaborate with Daft Punk, Cassius, Chromeo, Asian Dub Foundation and remixed Sam Sparro, Architecture In Helsinki, Miike Snow and more.
He is survived by his acclaimed French artist and model wife Fafi.
