Dolly Parton, the composer of her biggest hit ‘I Will Always Love You’ has spoken about the death of Whitney today.
In a statement to Billboard.com, Dolly Parton said, “Mine is only one of the millions of hearts broken over the death of Whitney Houston. I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song and I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, ‘Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed.'”
Dolly Parton wrote and recorded ‘I Will Always Loved You’ for herself, not Whitney, in 1974. It featured on her ‘Jolene’ album.
At one point Col. Tom Parker wanted to buy the song from Dolly for Elvis Presley to record but the deal was that Elvis would be credited as the songwriter.
Dolly refused to sell it to him. In 1992, Whitney Houston recorded it for the movie ‘The Bodyguard’. It became her biggest hit ever.
‘The Bodyguard’ album also currently holds the record for the most weeks ever at number one for a female artist in the USA.
