Donna Summer, the woman who defined disco in the late-70’s, Donna Summer, passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer.
The five-time Grammy winner during the last half of the decade with such hits as Love to Love You Baby (1975/#1 Dance/#2 Pop/#3 R&B), MacArthur Park (1978/#1 Pop/#1 Dance/#8 R&B), Hot Stuff (1979/#1 Pop/#1 Dance/#3 R&B), Bad Girls (1979/#1 Pop/#1 Dance/#1 R&B) and her duet with Barbra Streisand No More Tears (Enough is Enough) (1979/#1 Pop/#1 Dance/#20 R&B). Even though her success on the pop charts ended in 1989 with This Time I Know It’s For Real (1989/#7 Pop/#5 Dance), she continued to score on the Dance charts with her last hit, To Paris With Love, hitting number 1 in 2010.
Word is that she had tried to conceal her illness from the public while she finished her last album.
