Dr Dre and Ice Cube Break Suge Knight Silence

Dr. Dre and Ice Cube think Suge Knight’s murder case is ‘unfortunate’ in every way.

The 50-year-old co-founder of Death Row Records is currently in Los Angeles Men’s Central Jail awaiting trial for murder and attempted murder.

And both Dr. Dre and Ice Cube find the situation tragic.

“It’s just a really unfortunate incident,” Dre told The Hollywood Reporter. “Maybe [Knight] was looking for trouble. I don’t know.”

Knight found himself in police custody again after he was involved in a hit-and-run on January 29 which took the life of Terry Carter and left Cle ‘Bone’ Sloan seriously injured.

The lethal incident happened near the set of a promotional video shoot for forthcoming film Straight Outta Compton, a movie produced by Dre and Ice Cube about their legendary hip hop group N.W.A.

Knight attempted to enter the set of the promo video, but he was ushered off the premises by security guards. After being ejected from the set, the deadly hit-and-run took place.

“I was there. But I was just leaving, so I didn’t know what happened until I was halfway home,” Dre recalled. “I heard about it over the phone. Everybody was supportive everywhere we went, and we didn’t have one issue throughout the entire filming of the movie. It’s crazy that this happened during the f***ing filming of the commercial.”

Ice Cube thinks the Suge Knight event speaks to a larger issue.

He’s also concerned the hit-and-run will mar producers’ objectives with the Straight Outta Compton film.

“It’s the dangerous part of living in South Central,” Ice Cube noted. “Some people don’t care if you’re making a movie or not. It’s unfortunate because the movie is so good, so creative, so many talented people involved.”

Dr. Dre famously backed away from his $50 million stake in Death Row Records in 1996 after feuding with Knight.

Straight Outta Compton reaches theatres in August.
