Eagles Of Death Metal figurehead Jesse Hughes teams up with Beastie Boys DJ Money Mark as Boots Electric.
While Eagles Of Death Metal is certainly Hughes’ baby, the new album by Boots Electric is proposed as his solo debut.
The album, dubbed Honkey Kong, was co-written by DJ and producer Money Mark, best known for his long association with the Beastie Boys.
It was produced by Tony Hoffer, who has worked with Depeche Mode, Beck and the Kooks.
Honkey Kong is certainly a departure from the rough and dirty boogie rock of Eagles Of Death Metal.
The honky tonk and ‘60s girl group harmonics remain, but it’s framed in glam-pop and disco-synths.
The album also features guest vocals from Spinerette and Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle (who is also the wife of Hughes’ buddy Josh Homme from Queens Of the Stone Age).
Honkey Kong will be released on September 19 through Dangerbird Records/ Cooperative Music.
