Don’t expect Ed and Kate Nash to duet on a Bombay Bicycle Club song anytime soon. It isn’t going to happen.

“She’s got her own stuff to do,” Ed tells Noise11.com.

Kate had a UK number one album in 2007 with ‘Made Of Bricks’. She had a number two hit single with ‘Foundations’. Bombay Bicycle Club have had two top 10 albums in the UK. However the musical brother and sister didn’t get on that well as children. “Not as kids but when you get older you get on better,” he says.

While they both played music as kids it was never together. “I played saxophone terribly badly when I was younger and then I picked up the guitar. My sister did her own thing,” Ed says.

While the Nash kids may not have been that close, bass player Jamie MacColl also had a musical family. “He has a fascinating background. His Aunty was Kirsty MacColl. His dad is a very well respected guitarist and his Grandfather is a legend,” Ed says.

Jamie’s Grandfather was Ewan MacColl, who wrote the classic ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’. “It is one of the classic songs of all time. The whole family is musical. His brother is musical, his cousin, everyone in that family is good at playing music. It’s mindblowing. His dad helped produce the second album for us,” he says.

The late Kirsty MacColl was married to U2/Rolling Stones producer Steve Lillywhite making Steve Jamie’s uncle was well.

Bombay Bicycle Club will be in Australia as special guests of Elbow in March.

They will also perform their own shows.

Dates are:
March 18, Perth, Astor Theatre
March 20, Melbourne, Corner Hotel
March 28, Sydney, Oxford Arts Factory
