Ed Sheeran Fires Off At Glastonbury Critics

Ed Sheeran is taking aim at critics of his headlining set at Britain’s Glastonbury festival on Sunday (25Jun17), insisting everything he performs is live.

Ed Sheeran closed out the 2017 event with a hits-packed set on Glastonbury’s main stage, and decided to stay true to his usual solo gigs by playing a one-man show.

However, the simple set up left some fans disappointed, and many took to social media to question why Ed had not recruited a live band to perform with him instead of using what they thought was a backing tape onstage.

“Truth be told, guitar plays by itself, ghost backing singers, backing tracks. Ed Sheeran has bombed #glastonbury2017,” posted one detractor, while another wrote, “Where is Ed Sheeran’s band? Glastonbury is supposed to be about live music, not singing to a backing track…”

Ed decided to respond to the backlash via Twitter on Monday (26Jun17), when he pointed out the difference between a backing track and the looping device he had used at Glastonbury to add layers of music to his live performance in real time.

“Never thought I’d have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it’s a loop station, not a backing track,” he tweeted, before telling critics, “Please google”.

But the star refused to let the misunderstanding put a damper on his set: “Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun,” he added. “Love you all x”.

Sheeran was subsequently showered with praise by his followers, including The Script guitarist Mark Sheehan, who shared a few words of encouragement with his fellow musician.

“That’s because you kicked arse and made it look easy brother,” the rocker replied. “What a performance. Respect!!! Big love.”

Mark went on to add, “he’s very very talented and last night sealed the deal. He rocked!”
