Ed Sheeran could top the Australian singles chart this week.
With Ed Sheeran releasing his new single “Sing” on Friday, performing it at The Logies ceremony on Sunday night, his whirlwind visit to Australia and the fact that the song was produced by Pharrell Williams, could all end up giving Ed his first No.1 single in Australia this coming weekend. His previous best effort was with his first entry here “The A Team” which went to No.2 in November 2011 (although it did go to No.1 on the digital charts for a single week).
His competition of course is from the current No.1 holder Sheppard with “Geronimo” which is aiming for its fourth week at the top, although the recently released (earlier this week) track “Problem” for Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea is currently sitting at No.1 on several digital retailers (including the US charts), so at the moment there could be two debuts at either the top two or within the Top 10.
Last weeks highest new entry of “Wiggle” (TW-3) for Jason DeRulo should retain a Top 5 position thanks to his Logies medley and current national tour, whilst David Guetta could leap into the Top 10 (maybe top five) with his new track “Bad” (new TW-21), whilst this weeks No.2 track of “Chandelier” for Sia could drop down, but last week’s leap into the Top 10 for Rita Ora and “I Will Never Let You Down” should remain stable this weekend. Retaining their Top 10 status also should be Calvin Harris, Peking Duk and maybe Justin Timberlake or a return for Coldplay.
Potentially debuting within the Top 20 could be the new Sam Smith track “Stay With Me”, with ZHU possibly climbing to just outside the Top 10 with “Faded” (new TW-14). The new Iggy Azalea album looks headed for the top, which could help full her newly peaking track “Fancy” (TW-17) up into the Top 15, whilst Route 94 should continue to climb with “My Love” (TW-19).
After climbing to No.34 with “Birthday”, Katy Perry looks set for a high-end Top 30 placing this week, as too Passenger with “Hearts on Fire” (TW-38), and dropping to No.30 this week, Samantha Jade should climb back with “Up!” Milky Chance entered at No.60 with “Stolen Dance” this week, and it looks set to jump into the high-end of the Top 40, whilst other new entries from last week, “Lay Me Down” (TW-99) for Avicii with Adam Lambert and Nile Rogers and “Marilyn Monroe” for Pharrell (TW-53) could leap into the top forty this weekend.
Lower fifty items for the past couple of weeks which look set for a Top 40 berth this week include “Money on My Mind” (TW-61) for Sam Smith and “Turn Down for What” (TW-58) by DJ Snake and Lil’ Jon both jumping up in sales, whilst the MKTO tour (and Logies closing appearance) looks set to push up their current single “American Dream” (HP-43, TW-48) into the Top 40 for the first time. Gabrielle Aplin’s new track here “Salvation” could debut within the 41-50 region, as too Tegan & Sara with the LEGO Movie theme “Everything is Awesome” (if its allowed to chart).
Lower 50: John Newman appeared at The Logies performing “Love Me Again” (HP-4) as too did Tina Arena singing “Only Lonely” (HP-32, Nov 2013) during the Memoriam segment, both of which could return to the charts this week, and further new entries could come from Krewella with “Enjoy the Ride”, One Direction and “You and I”, the upbeat sounding “Do it Again” for Royksopp and Robyn, The Thundamentals with Solo on “Got Love”, and just outside at the moment are Nico & Vinz with “Am I Wrong”, DJ Khaled with T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and Rick Ross on “All I Do is Win” and Ricky Dillon with “Ordinary”.
Albums:
Adding more Aussie fuel to the national top spot this coming weekend is rapper Iggy Azalea with her debut studio album “The New Classic”, with both regular and deluxe versions selling well, but it’s neck and neck with the current No.1 “Built on Glass” for Chet Faker, going for a third straight week at the top this coming weekend.
ZHU and his “Nightday” EP (new TW-20) could jump into the Top 10 this week, whilst current tourists MKTO (full tour) and Ed Sheeran (quick promo tour) and their Logies performances, could push their current albums back up into the Top 20 (maybe even higher for MKTO), whilst the newly re-packaged “Tattoos” (TW-13) set for Jason DeRulo could crack the Top 10 again helped by his tour also. Retaining their Top 10 status should be the “Frozen’ Soundtrack, INXS, Pharrell Williams, Paolo Nutini (who was also on Graham Norton on Sunday night) and possibly Harrison Craig.
The Cab could see their “Lock Me Up” EP debut within the Top 20, as too the self-titled EP for Wet, whilst the debut set for The Vamps called “Meet the Vamps” could also be in for top twenty berth. Set for a Top 30 debut could be the Hillsong group Passion with their album “Take it All (Live)” and John Legend collaborator Lindsey Stirling with “Shatter Me”, whilst Top 40 entries could come from Damon Albarn and his debut solo set “Everyday Robots” and Whitechapel with “Our Endless War”.
The Doc Neeson documentary screened earlier this week could see a return for The Angels “Greatest Hits”, whilst lower down we could see further entries from Miss May I with “Rise of the Lion” and Brody Dalle and “Diploid Love”. The newly repackaged tour edition of Michael Buble’s “To Be Loved” (TW-75) album should start rising again as his tour is about to occur, and there’s a possibility for Rodriguez to return with his albums “Searching for Sugar Man” and “Cold Fact”.
