Eleanor Parker, who played Baroness Elsa von Schraeder in The Sound Of Music, has passed away at the age of 91.
Parker played Captain von Trapp’s (Christopher Plummer) fiancé who becomes jealous of the Captain’s fondness for Maria von Trapp (Julie Andrews) who he eventually marries.
Eleanor Parker starred in over 80 movies and while she was never nominated for an Academy Award for her ‘Sound of Music’ role she was nominated on three other occasions for ‘Caged’ (1950), ‘Detective Story’ (1951) and ‘Interrupted Melody’ (1955).
Eleanor made her movie debut in ‘The Big Shot’ in 1941. She also had a small part in ‘They Died With Their Boots On’ just prior to that movie but her scene was cut. The movie starred Errol Flynn.
She went on to play guest parts in many TV shows including ‘Hawaii Five-O’, ‘The Love Boat’, ‘Fantasy Island’ and ‘Murder She Wrote’.
Her last acting role was in ‘Dead on the Money’ in 1991.
Parker died on Monday in Palm Springs from pneumonia.
