Walk Off The Earth won’t have to use just one guitar when they perform Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ anymore. Ellen Degeneres has given the five players of the Gotye cover brand new Fender guitars and amps.
Burlington, Ontario’s Walk Off The Earth performed ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ on The Ellen Show this week after their sudden rise to fame via YouTube just weeks earlier.
Their version of the Gotye song has clocked up 37,086,215 views on YouTube in the past two weeks.
After clocking up over 35 million views with their Gotye cover Walk Off The Earth caught the eye of Ellen Degeneres who invited them onto her show.
The Walk Off The Earth version features five people playing one song. “First of all it’s a good thing you don’t play ukuele,” Ellen said at the end of their performance.
She then surprised them with a present. “You won’t have to use one guitar anymore. We are going to give all of you Fender guitars and amps,” she told the band.
Meanwhile, Gotye’s version has been number one in Germany for the past four weeks. YouTube views of the Gotye clip are now at 48,692,660.
