Singer Ellie Goulding has been forced to scrap upcoming shows due to illness.
Goulding was scheduled to perform at the Positivus Festival in Latvia on Friday and at Finland’s Ilosaarirock Festival the following day, but she is simply too sick to grace the stage.
“Am sorry that I had to cancel this weekends festivals (sic),” she wrote on her Twitter account on Wednesday. “Because of ill-health I’ve been advised to not travel or perform.”
Goulding did not go into further details but told fans she plans to “bounce back”.
So far, 2016 has proven to be a year of ups and downs for the musician after she ended her two-year on-and-off romance with McFly bassist Dougie Poynter in March, and then put her forthcoming album on hold, telling the Daily Star Online last month she is simply too “snowed in” with pressure from her Delirium World Tour to focus on new music right now.
Ellie previously admitted work stress had caused significant health issues for her in the past, noting while promoting her most recent album, Delirium, she thought the panic attacks she suffered early in her career were returning, and she turned to techniques she learned during cognitive behavioural therapy sessions to help herself cope with the episodes.
“I was sceptical at first because I’d never had therapy, but not being able to leave the house was so debilitating, and this was when my career was really taking off,” she told Flare magazine in May (16) of her struggles with anxiety. “My surroundings would trigger a panic attack, so I couldn’t go to the studio unless I was lying down in the car with a pillow over my face. I used to beat myself up about it.”
“There were a couple of times after I released Delirium when I was doing promo and thought, ‘Oh God, it’s coming back, it’s coming back, but it didn’t’,” she added. “I think my body has become quite good at controlling anxiety.”
