Ellie Goulding has been forced to cancel gigs because she is suffering from exhaustion.
Goulding was due to perform at the Positivus Festival in Latvia on Friday, followed by Finland’s Ilosaarirock Festival on Saturday (16Jul16), but announced on Twitter on Wednesday that she wasn’t well enough to play either of them. She didn’t mention what was wrong at the time, but has now revealed to Britain’s Evening Standard newspaper that she is dropping out on doctor’s orders.
“I’ve had to cancel some festivals this weekend because of exhaustion,” she sighed. “I’ve done nearly 100 shows this year and my doctor has said if I do this weekend my voice might not bounce back from it. They did a bunch of tests on me and I have been diagnosed with exhaustion.
“I’m a hard worker. I don’t cancel anything unless I really need to, but my doctor said, ‘Ellie, your voice is going to burn out’. Glastonbury was the point where I realised I was pretty exhausted. It’s all good though – I’m feeling really positive about the rest of the year.”
Ellie, 29, has already performed plenty of concerts this year as part of her Delirium World Tour, which kicked off on 21 January in Hamburg and is due to end on 8 October in Melbourne. Her next show will be on 31 July in Chicago.
While she can’t perform, Ellie is trying her best to keep occupied, attending a private screening of environmental documentary Racing Extinction in London, England, earlier this week.
“I’m here tonight because I am so passionate,” she gushed. “My doctor advised I didn’t do anything for the next few weeks, but this screening room is less than a mile from my house and I don’t have to sing… and this is a matter of saving the planet. It’s the most important thing in the world.”
Also in attendance was her ex-boyfriend Dougie Poynter, who she split from a couple of months ago after an on-off relationship. The documentary raised awareness for global warming, and the effect it has on various species.
