Singer Ellie Goulding believes everyone who dreams of fame will get their “comeuppance” when they finally make it.
The 28-year-old Brit has hit number one the world over with catchy tracks like Love Me Like You Do, which also featured in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.
But it’s not all been easy; Ellie’s struggled with confidence issues and used to have a bad relationship with her body.
“I do think that if I hadn’t had my manager or my friends around me, I could have crumbled very quickly,” she admitted to Britain’s Glamour magazine.
“But anyone who is famous has probably wanted to be famous. It doesn’t happen accidentally. So when you find out that it’s not as pretty as it looks, I feel like that’s almost your comeuppance or your karma. It’s the universe saying: ‘You wanted it so badly, and here it is. Not what you thought it would be, right?'”
Ellie says the hardest parts are people judging her for what she looks like and her love life.
Her boyfriend – and rumoured fiancé – Dougie Poynter has been Ellie’s rock since they confirmed their relationship in May 2014. While she won’t say whether he’s popped the question yet, she’s enthusiastic about the idea of marriage.
“God, yes!” she said, when asked if she’s ready to marry. “I’m nearly 30. I once had a pretty warped view of marriage because so many people around me had divorced parents. So for a long time I did think that I’d never get married and that men were s**t – all that stuff. But when someone comes along and re-establishes that trust, then it’s nice to think of doing everything the traditional way: having a church wedding, with all my family in one place – I love the idea of that.”
