The Recording Academy has announced that Elton John, Mavis Staples, Mumford and Sons, Zac Brown and Britney Howard of the Alabama Shakes will be doing a special salute to the late Levon Helm of the Band on this Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
In addition, T Bone Burnett will be musical director for the salute.
While there was no mention of what song would be performed in the Recording Academy’s press release, a number of sources are saying that it will be the Band classic The Weight. The performance will be part of the annual look at artists who have died in the last twelve months.
It was also announced today that Miguel and Wiz Khalifa have been added to the performers roster for the show while Dave Grohl, Ne-Yo and Ryan Seacrest are now on the presenters list.
