Elton was already in Birmingham, Alabama for the show when he came down with the mystery illness just hours before he was due on stage. His piano had already been set-up on stage at the venue when the show was cancelled.

The Birmingham show was meant to be the first show on the Southern States USA ‘40th Anniversary of Rocket Man’ tour. Elton performed the tour in Australia last November.

Sir Elton is due to perform in Memphis on Saturday night (March 16).
