Elvis Costello played a short and sharp 18 song one hour and 15 minute set for his first A Day On The Green show at Rochford Winery last night (January 26).

The Australia Day performance features The Imposters performing ‘Waltzing Matilda’ within ‘(I Don’t Want To Go To) Chelsea’, ‘Help Me’ dropped into ‘Watching The Detectives’, ‘Tracks Of My Tears’ included in ‘Alison’ and ‘Ain’t That A Lot of Love’ incorporated into ‘Pump It Up’.

The all-Australian openers included an absolutely captivating set from The Sunnyboys, an all-hit Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons show with Tex Perkins and Stephen Cummings opening the show at around 3pm.

The Costello setlist was a pleasant surprise. At 75 minutes it was a short show for Costello but sandwiched with best-known songs. This was the closest I’ve ever seen Elvis come to a greatest hits set. It was a completely different show to the night before at the Palais Melbourne.

A special mention and thankyou to A Day On The Green founders Mick and Anthea Newton who were celebrating their 300th A Day On The Green show at Rochford yesterday.

The Elvis Costello setlist was:

I Hope You’re Happy Now From Blood and Chocolate, 1986)
Heart Of The City (Nick Lowe cover)

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
