The Federal Government has announced an addition $6 million will be funnelled into funding for community radio stations across Australia.
The funds have been allocated for use for digital broadcasting for the community stations.
Melbourne’s 3RRR station manager Dave Houchin has welcomed the announcement. “This is great news for the future of community broadcasting in Australia,” he said. “Thank you to the Government for coming through with this funding, to the thousands of people who supported the commit to community radio campaign, and of course to all of Triple R’s amazing subscribers and volunteers who keep the station going day-to-day. This is a win for every one of the 4.4 million community radio listeners Australia-wide.”
Melbourne’s 3RRR has over 14,000 subscribers and reaches a weekly audience of 440,000 listeners. 4.4 million Australian’s listen to a community radio station every week.
