Warner Music will release Johnny Marr’s first solo album ‘The Messenger’.
After leaving The Smiths, Marr has maintained a profile with Electronic, The The, Modest Mouse, The Cribs and Johnny Marr and the Healers but this will be the first album released under his own name.
Marr formed The Smiths with Morrissey in 1982 and recorded four albums with the band before they split. To this day they have never reformed.
Marr has performed on many sessions including work with his mate Neil Finn on the Crowded House record ‘Time On Earth’. He also composed a lot of the score for the 2010 sci-fi movie ‘Inception’.
About The Messenger the Portland, Oregon based UK born Marr says, “The underlying idea of the record is my experience of growing up in Europe. When you’re away from your home city you’re more compelled to write about it, whether that’s because you’re homesick or you’ve got more objectivity, I don’t know. Growing up in the city influences you, and I’ve continued to see, stories and energy in it.”
Warner Music will release The Messenger on February 22, 2013.
