Spotify have released their streaming data for 2013, showing the year’s most streamed artists in Australia and the rest of the world.

Unsurprisingly, Flume and Lorde dominated the streams for male and female artists respectively within Australia, with Daft Punk taking out the most streamed artist in Australia for 2013.

Recent ARIA Award winning artist Flume, capped off his stellar year by becoming the most streamed Australian artist in 2013. His self-titled debut was the most-streamed album within Australia, with his hit single, ‘Holdin’ On’, featuring in the top 10 highest streamed songs.

Lorde had the third most streamed single in Australia with her worldwide hit, ‘Royals’, while she also claimed the prize for most streamed female artist in Australia. In addition to these accolades, Lorde was also the most shared new artist on Spotify globally.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were the most streamed artist globally, while their track ‘Can’t Hold Us’, taking out the most streamed song of the year. Rihanna continues her world domination by taking out the most streamed female artist for the second year in a row, followed closely by Lana Del Rey and Pink.

Spotify’s ‘Year In Review 2013’, takes into account the listening habits of its 24 million users from all over the world. In 2013, users streamed an insane 4.5 billion hours of music, which converts to almost 50,000 years of music.

Love or hate Spotify, it is clear that the platform opens up doors for new artists such as Flume, Lorde and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, who were all barely a blip on the music radar just over a year ago.
