Flume has picked up Triple J’s Album of the Year Award at the J Awards handed out in Sydney.
The self-titled Flume album is the 9th Triple J Album of the Year joining Wolfmother (2005), Hilltop Tops (2006), The Panics (2007), The Presets (2008), Sarah Blasko (2009), Tame Impala (2010 and again in 2012) and Gotye (2011).
“Flume’s self-titled debut is remarkable for so many reasons. It had equal measures of light and dark, upbeat and mellow, straightforward and obscure. Where he will take his music now is as exciting a prospect as this album has been for us all in 2013,” Triple J music director Richard Kingsmill said in a statement.
Flume topped albums from The Drones, RUFUS, Cloud Control, Jagwar Ma, Big Scary, Abbe May, Boy & Bear, Horrorshow, Karnivool and Northlane.
Melbourne’s Remi was named Unearthed Artist of the Year and Clubfeet’s ‘Everything You Wanted’ was crowned Australian Music Video of the Year.
