Foo Fighters’ bass player Nate Mendel has formed a new band he calls Lieutenant.
Mendel is in Austin, Texas to launch Lieutenant on the world.
Lieutenant has a similar start to how Dave Grohl started Foo Fighters with Mendel multi-tasking on production. Nate is listed as primary songwriter, arranger, guitarist and singer for the quintet.
The origins of Lieutenant date back to 2012 when Mendel entered the studio with drummer Joe Plummer (The Shins) and producer Tashi Kasal. The recording includes guitarist Page Hamilton (Helmet) and Josiah Johnson (The Head and The Heart) who appear on “Believe The Squalor” with vocalist Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate) and Foo Fighter guitarist Chris Shiflett contribute to “The Place You Wanna Go.”
Lieutenant recently made their live debut in California and are using SXSW to launch a US tour.
The current tour lineup features Mendel on guitar and vocals along with Christian Wargo (Fleet Foxes) on bass, Paul “Pablo” Wilson (Snow Patrol) on guitar, Jesse Wood on drums and Toshi Kasai on keys.
