Neil X of Sigue Sigue Sputnik has a new band called The Montecristos.
Neil has been working for the past few years writing and recording with Marc Almond (Soft Cell) and he produced a no. 1 album in Spain for Fangoria. He also composes for movie soundtracks.
The Monecristos are described as 21st Century rock ‘n’ roll with reverb drenched surf, rockabilly, glam, slap and twang.
The band features Neil X with Emma Goss on bass, Hugh Wilkinson tub thumping, Gemma B trumpet, Sophie F baritone sax and Rosy R on tenor sax.
They will launch their live act at Underbelly in London on December 5, 2013.
Sigue Sigue Sputnik was the “fantasy” band formed by Generation X’s Tony James in 1982. Their first single ‘Love Missile F1-11, produced by Giorgio Moroder, reached no. 3 on the UK chart and was featured by John Hughes in his movie ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’.
Sigue Sigue Sputnik made news with the release of their debut album ‘Flaunt It’. They sold the space between each song to advertisers for between $2500 and $7000 and ran commercials in the gaps.
The band broke up in 1989 but has had a number of reunions since.
