Producer Todd Lieberman confirmed to Collider the New Zealand comedian and music producer is returning for the sequel, which will take Kermit and the gang to Europe.
Christoph Waltz has been tipped to play an Interpol inspector after the group.
The Muppets’ director James Bobin and screenwriter Nicholas Stoller will return for the project.
Bret was presented with his first Oscar at the 84th annual Academy Awards in February, beating out a song from animated film Rio.
Man or Muppet was performed by Jason Segel, who portrayed Gary in the film – and Peter Linz, who voiced Walter the Muppet.
Jason has reportedly opted not to return for the sequel.
Muppets 2 is scheduled to begin production in London late January and will continue filming through April.
