‘Dream Lover’, the story of Bobby Darin by Frank Howson and John-Michael Howson, will be performed in Melbourne from December 2017.
‘Dream Lover’ stars David Campbell returning to the role after the successful debut of the show in 2016 in Sydney.
Claire Spencer, Chief Executive Officer of Arts Centre Melbourne, said “We are thrilled that Dream Lover will grace the stage of the magnificent State Theatre next summer – adding to the vibrant performance offerings of Melbourne. At Arts Centre Melbourne, we love bringing people together for remarkable experiences and this production will be no exception. We’re looking forward to working closely with John Frost and the team to bring this fabulous show to Melbourne.”
Frank Howson co-wrote Little River Band’s ‘Suicide Boulevard’ on the ‘Time Exposure’ album (1981) and ‘The Danger Sign’ with Beeb Birtles on the next album ‘The Net’ (1983) with John Farnham on lead vocals.
Frank co-wrote songs for John Paul Young’s ‘One Foot In Front’ and Pseudo Echo’s debut ‘Autumnal Park’.
As a film director his earliest success was ‘Flynn’, a film about the early life of Errol Flynn and starring Guy Pearce.
John’s cousin John-Michael Howson has worked in entertainment since before The Beatles were famous. John-Michael began creating musicals in 1972 but it was his musical about the life of Johnny O’Keefe ‘Shout! The Legend of the Wild One’ that set him on his current path of music biographies. He also co-wrote ‘Dusty’ – The Original Pop Diva’ which debuted in 2006 and was revived by The Production Company in 2016.
