Frank Ocean visual album ‘Endless’ will be nowhere to be seen on the Billboard chart this week because they don’t have a way to chart it.
While Ocean’s other album ‘Blonde’ does qualify because it fits an album format, ‘Endless’, as a 45-minute long music video, is all out on its own format-wise and therefore ineligible to be considered alongside tradition album formats.
‘Endless’ is only available in its full form and from Apple’s streaming service only. No other title is served to the consumer that way, so in a way, it’s an easy number one all alone on its own chart.
According to Billboard, “Because Endless is not for sale — at least, not at the moment — and none of its tracks are individually available to purchase or stream (only the full 45-minute project is streamable), there is no data to drive it onto either the Billboard 200 or the Music Video Sales chart, the latter of which ranks the week’s top-selling long-form videos available on home video (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.)”.
Frank Ocean ‘Blonde’ does qualify for the Billboard album chart and has around 275,000 traditional album sales, streaming-equivalent album sales, and track equivalent-album sales.
‘Blonde’ is almost 200,000 sales in front of the number two album ‘Brave Enough’ by Lindsay Stirling but has sold less than half of Beyonce’s first week sales for ‘Lemonade’.
