Freedy Johnston is venturing west this weekend for a show at the Mint in Los Angeles.
Freedy’s power-pop riffs established his reputation as a craftsman of the guitar back in the early 90s. He made his major label debut on Elektra in 1994 with ‘This Perfect World’ and was named Songwriter of the Year that year by Rolling Stone.
‘Bad Reputation’, the single from the album, also earned him a place n the Billboard Hot 100.
Freedy has featured on the movie soundtracks ‘Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead’ and ‘Kingpin’. He also has an occasional covers band called The Know It All Boyfriends with Butch Vig and Duke Erikson of Garbage.
In 2008, he released his own covers album ‘My Favorite Waste of Time’ with songs from Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and The Hollies.
Freedy is also part of the all-star band The Hobart Brothers and Lil’ Sis with Susan Cowsill and Jon Dee Graham.
Freedy will play a rare LA gig on Saturday at The Mint on West Pico Blvd and then the following night will hit Encinitas down San Diego way in California the following night.
In March, Noise11 caught up with Freedy and Susan Cowsill at SXSW for this interview.
