Kidd Creole, the hip hop pioneer who was a member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five has been charged with murder of a homeless man in New York.

Creole works near the area where John Jolly’s body was found with stab wounds. According to the charges, he was on his way to work when the homeless man, who was a convicted sex offender and was drunk, approached Creole. The rapper thought that the man was propositioning him and allegedly stabbed him in the chest.

A number of tourists found Jolly’s body and, at first, thought he was just passed out on the street but, after noticing blood, alerted authorities. Jolly died after being taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Creole was initially identified through surveillance tapes and, later, made a statement that led to his arrest.

Kidd Creole, real name Nathaniel Glover, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 as a member of the Furious Five and should not be confused with Kid Creole of Kid Creole & The Coconuts fame.
