Garth Brooks is back at number one in the USA.
After its debut at number 3 last week, it looked like Garth Brooks’ return with his first studio album in 12 years (combined with hits and live recordings) would not make it to the top of the charts.
That number 3 start was based on a shortened sales week for the album which came out on Thanksgiving but, now that it has a full chart week in the stores, it is shooting up to number 1. The Wal-Mart exclusive sold an estimated 141,000 copies according to Hits Daily Double, putting it a little over 30,000 ahead of the latest from One Direction.
The album marks the ninth time that Brooks has made it to the top of the Billboard Top 200 Albums.

Brooks is currently the third biggest selling artist in American recording history with 128 million albums sold. he sits behind the Beatles with 177 million and Elvis Presley with 134.5 million.
There is also a good chance that Mary J. Blige’s holiday album, A Mary Christmas, will move into the top ten. While charts won’t be finalized until Thursday, Hits Daily Double shows her with 51,000 units sold last week which should put her in position nine or ten. If she makes it, every one of her eleven studio albums will have made it to the top ten.
Boston’s newest album, Life, Love, Hope, appears to have only sold around 16,000 copies in its debut week. That would give them a start in the high 30’s on the chart. Life is their sixth studio album since 1976, the first four of which made the top ten. Their fifth, 2002’s Corporate America, peaked at only 42 which means the new album could actually be an improvement for the group.
