There was little question that, when Garth Brooks returned from retirement, there would be millions of people waiting, but who knew there would be so many in Dublin, Ireland.
Brooks made the rather odd decision of staging his first major concerts post-retirement off of U.S. soil with a three-night run at Croke Park. He was popular in that part of the world, having scored three top ten albums in Britain, but it wasn’t the fan crazed popularity in his home country.
Garth managed to sell out all three nights of his July 25 to 27 run at the venue, which has a capacity of over 82,000, in just ninety minutes. It is the first time ever that an artist has sold out three shows at the venue in one day, much less in ninety minutes. Ticket prices for the show average $88.
Peter Aiken, the promoter of the show, said “In 52 years of business this is the fastest selling concert Aiken Promotions have ever been involved in.”
Of course, the sales for this show bodes well for Brooks’ upcoming world tour, his first in over a decade.
Garth will also appear on the final Jay Leno Tonight Show on February 6 along with Billy Crystal. Leno is making way for Jimmy Fallon to take over the long running late night franchise.
Garth Brooks is one of the biggest selling artist in U.S. recording history with 128 million albums sold, third only to the Beatles with 177 million and Elvis Presley with 128 million.
