Country superstar George Jones has died at the age of 81.
Jones, one of America’s most popular country stars. He released his first album ‘Grand Old Opry’s New Star’ in 1957 but it was 1964’s ‘Blue and Lonesome’ that gave him his first country hit album (no. 11).
Jones’ first number one country ‘I’m A People’ in 1966. He had 15 Top 40 Country albums in the 60s.
Every Jones album of the 70s also made the US country chart. In the 70s he had 14 hit country albums including ‘A Picture Of Me (Without You)’ (no. 3, 1972).
Jones’ number one country hits included ‘White Lightning’ (1958), ‘She Thinks I Still Care’ (1962), ‘Walk Through This World With Me’ (1967), ‘The Grand Tour’ (1974), ‘The Door’ (1974), ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’ (1980), ‘Still Doin’ Time (1981), ‘I Always Get Lucky With You’ (1983),
George Jones was married four times. His third wife was country star Tammy Wynette. The couple recorded 14 country hit songs together including ‘We’re Gonna Hold On’, ‘Golden Ring’ and ‘Near You’.
Jones also recorded ‘We Didn’t See A Thing’ with Ray Charles (1983), ‘A Few Ole Country Boys’ (1990) and ‘Country Boy’ with Aaron Lewis (2010).
His final concert was on November 22, 2103 in Nashville. At the show he mentioned he had recorded a new album with a duet with Dolly Parton. The still unreleased album will be the final George Jones album.
