The cast of ‘Georgy Girl – The Seekers Musical’ has been revealed.
Pippi Grandison will play Judith Durham, Phillip Lowe is Keith Potger, Mike McLeish is Bruce Woodley and Glaston Toft will play Athol Guy.
The announcement was made from the stage of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne where in 1966 The Seekers performed live to an estimated 200,000 people, still on record as the largest gathering for a concert ever in Australia.
‘Georgy Girl – The Seekers Musical’ will tell the story of the first Australian group to score a number one hit in the USA and the UK and the first group ever to achieve number one hits with their first three singles in the UK.
The Seekers are also the only group of their era and stature to still be together with all four original members.
‘Georgy Girl – The Seekers Musical’ is from producer Richard East, who was an originating producer of ‘Mamma Mia’ and Dennis Smith, producer of ‘Dusty – The Original Pop Diva’.
The show will premiere in The Seekers hometown Melbourne on December 22, 2015. “There is no other city in the world we could have opened this in,” Richard East said. “Melbourne is the home of The Seekers and where it all began for Judith, Athol, Keith and Bruce in 1962 before they went on to capture the hearts and conquer the charts of the rest of the world.”
“We are absolutely delighted that the story and the music of The Seekers is being brought to the stage as a musical,” The Seekers said in a joint statement. “We hope you will share and continue to enjoy our journey, as our story comes to life as a brand new Australian musical.”
‘George Girl – The Seekers Musical’ will play for 14 weeks from 15 December, 2015 at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne before moving to Sydney.
