Harold Ramis, best known for his role as Spengler the Ghostbuster in Ghostbusters, has died at his home in Chicago at age 69.
Ramis died from complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis. His health started to deteriorate in 2009 and by May 2010 complications from the disease took away his ability to walk.
Harold Ramis was born in Illinois in 1944.
Ramis was one of America’s most successful comedy crators.
Ramis not only starred in the ‘Ghostbusters’ movies but he was also the co-writer with Dan Ackroyd. The multi-talented Ramis was also the producer of ‘Groundhog Day’ and ‘Multiplicity’, director of ‘Analyze This’ and ‘Analyze That’, ‘Caddyshack’ and ‘Nation Lampoon’s Vacation’ and the co-writer of ‘Caddyshack’ and ‘Caddyshack II’, ‘Stripes’, ‘Meatballs’ and ‘Analyze This’ and ‘Analyze That’.
Ramis also directed episodes of ‘The Office’.
Judd Apatow was a huge fan of Ramis and cites him as a major influence. In 2007, Apatow cast Ramis as Ben’s dad in his movie ‘Knocked Up’.
Erica Mann, Harold’s wife, announced that her husband passed away early on Monday morning of February 24, 2014.
Ramis is survived by Erica and children Violet Stiel, Julian and Daniel Ramis. He also has two grandchildren.
