The word on the street is that Google will launch its long-talked about music store this Wednesday putting the first serious rival to Apple’s iTunes in play.
According to a Wall Street Journal report the company is yet to sign the world’s biggest music company Universal Music Group but is said to be close to a deal.
It is unclear if the company has also signed Warner and Sony but it has done a deal with EMI. (Universal announced on the weekend it was buying EMI but that could take more than a year to go through).
The official announcement is planned for Wednesday afternoon at Mr Brainwash’s Studio on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes and Drake are just some of the acts who are scheduled to be at the announcement.
Google launched its Google Music Beta cloud service back in May. This week Apple launched its cloud service iTunes Match.
