Just two weeks before the release of his biggest ever hit Gotye was in a Melbourne studio working on lead vocals for a track on the forthcoming solo record for Tommy Spender.
The Spender EP ‘Modern Pest’ features Gotye on the track ‘Hotel Home’.
“Funnily enough Gotye is singing lead vocals on one of the songs on the EP,” Spender tells Noise11. “We recorded it two weeks before the release of ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Literally, two weeks. I packed up my gear and said “good luck, and I’ll be in touch, speak to you soon”. And then he exploded. It’s been an amazing journey following his rise”.
Spender’s ‘Modern Pest’ EP was released this month and features the now famous Gotye. “I’m kind of wondering how it will affect my EP with him singing on it and if that will change the way people view it.”
Tom Spender was a member of Melbourne pop/electronic band Offcuts. ‘Modern Pest’ is his first solo record.
Spender will tour Australia in August with Clare Bowditch.
