Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is the 52nd biggest selling song of all-time in the UK and that puts it ahead of Kylie’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ but behind The Seekers ‘The Carnival Is Over’.
‘The Carnival Is Over’ is the 36th biggest selling song of all-time in the UK and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ is at 73.
Technically two of the biggest selling Australian songs of all-time in England both belong to Olivia Newton-John but she shares the title in both cases with John Travolta.
‘You’re The One That I Want’ is the 5th biggest selling song of all-time in the UK and ‘Summer Nights’ is at 20. Both are credited to John Travolta & Olivia-Newton-John and both came from the movie Grease.
The Seekers ‘The Carnival Is Over’ is the biggest selling 100% recording by Australians, according to the Official Charts Company.
The Seekers, Olivia Newton-John, Gotye and Kylie Minogue are the only Australian to have million selling songs in the UK. As of this week, 126 songs have sold over one million in the UK. The most recent is ‘Fairytale Of New York’ by Kirsty MacColl and The Pogues.
