Matt Kean, the New South Wales government Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, has issued a warning against scam ticketing reseller Viagogo.
“Fair Trading estimates that over 600 consumers have been ripped off to the tune of $130,000,” the minister said. Noise11 understands that that is just a fraction of people who have really lost money but not reported it.
Promoter Harley Medcalf has slapped down Google for allowing the scam to generate. He told Seven News “they allow Viagogo to advertise,” he said. Viagogo simply pays a premium to get their Google ad placed above the genuine promoter ads. The consumer is fished in and often ripped off with thanks to the perception that a high ranking Google placement means credibility.
