The wolf had ventured out of Oregon and travelled 800 miles into California arriving on December 28, 2011.

That promoted conservation group Oregon Wild launched a children’s art content on their Facebook and two kids, a 7-year-old from Mountain Home, Idaho and an 11-year-old from Dickinson, North Dakota both came up with the name Journey because it was important we ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, a reference to Journey’s major hit from the 80s.

Officially the wolf will have the name OR7. That is the name given by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Journey will be his nickname.

The Department says the wolf started his journey in September and arrived in California is late December. He is the first gray wolf to come into California of his own accord since 1924.

Journey the band are in recess at the moment. Their recent ‘Eclipse’ tour ended in October. It was the 12th biggest tour of 2011 and sold over 800,000 tickets.
