Green Day Play First Show In Over A Year With Rarities And Rancid

by Paul Cashmere on April 18, 2015

in Live,News

Green Day are back together for the first time in over a year and played a gig in Cleveland this week with some very rare and old songs and their mate Tim Armstrong from Rancid along for a few songs as well.

The first part of the show went back to the indie days before Green Day has signed with a major label. They played an entire set of 11 songs featuring songs from their first two EPs and LPs. One song, ‘Green Day’ had not been played since 1990. ‘Sweet Children’ was heard again live for the first time since 1991, ‘Private Ale’ and ‘I Was There’ were last played in 1992, ‘Dry Ice’ in 1993 and ‘Don’t Leave Me’ in 1994.

Green Day performed a three hour set at the House of Blues in Cleveland with special guest John Kiffmeyer, their first drummer. Kiffmeyer played on the EPs and indie records in 1989 and 1990 before being replaced by Tré Cool.

Green Day will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Lou Reed, Ringo Starr and Joan Jett on Saturday night.
